Best and Worst of 2007

Post by paulthetexan »

Howdy Folks

I know this may be a tired old topic that comes up from time to time , but for some reason I'm intersted to know what we think !
One of the local racers raised it the other night at a meeting but sadly didn't generate to much input.

So heres another chance to contemplate your choice

For me Best of 2007
- Scaley F1 twin sets ( detail and performance not to shabby )
- Jaguar XKRS ( looks along do it this for this cat )
- Ninco Ford Focus WRC ( stunning board track car )
- SCX Honda Accord WTCC ( Dark horse , suprising to drive SOOB )

Worst
- Revell shelby Daytona Coupe ( Beutiful to look at but pitiful to drive )
- Sirit Reynard 2KQ LMP ( Thanks for passing that one on Normy )
- Scaley Ford Escort ( Better than when I was 12 , but unfortunatley you have to hang on to it like your 12 )
- Scaley TVR T400R ( What the ! )

Well , thats my pick for this week , and believe me it changes week to week . Keeping in mind that I prefer board Racing .

I'd like to here what you think

Regards Paul

I was hoping the question on Saturday would create more conversation/debate about last years cars.
For me the best cars - or i guess the cars i had the most success with - either plastic or board - i prefer the latter though. This is going cars i have run/raced not the shelf queens.

Best
Ninco Porsche 997
SCX Renault 5 Turbo
Scalextric Porsche RS Spyder LMP
Scalextric Nissan Skyline GTR
Scalextric A1 GP
Scalextric Boss 302 Mustang - Alan Moffat

Not so good
AutoArt Porsche GT3RS
SCX Ford Escort RS Cosworth
SCX Nascar

Just my 2c worth.
Thanks for re-igniting the question Paul.

Mmmmmmmm?

That's a hard one! (as the actress sai..........)...no no no lets not go there!

You guys know I love tinkering as do you guys, and its a case of 'best' and 'not so good before tinkering with it!!

Worst has to be the Autoart Mustang FR500. Way overgeared and top heavy. and best has to be my little Scaley Renault F1 after setting it up.

Graceville, 15.3 secs!!

Suits YOU sir!

I loved the Scaley F1 set. Hands down, their best so far.
I also have become a loyal Slot-it fan this year.

Worst, Slotter anything, and overpriced, too delicate Nincos. I may not buy them anymore at all.

Mmmm,

...Well it just goes to show that one mans meat is another mans poison!!!!

The best for me this year ( a bit hard to narrow down because there have been so many great models released)

Slot.It. Alfa 33/3, without a doubt top of the tree, detail, performance, value for money and something a little quirky in one of my favourite slotting genres....

SCX Dahlgren Volvo S60, a lot of model for only a little money, nice tampo, decent runner out of the box....

SCX Ford Escort RS1800, as a slot car nothing special, but I was over the moon to see a slot car manufacturer finally make a Mark II for 1:1 scale Escort fans....

The worst....

Spirit Courage, was wanting to re-live the joy that the Reynard TKQ gave me when it was released (see another mans poison is my meat!). Got it out of the box, wouldnt run, looked at it, front wheels off centre in wheelarch (that cant be right surely????), put back in box, leave in wardrobe for 15+ years until it becomes "rare", "collectable", "classic", "NIB" and hopefully flog it off for purchase price plus bank interest over time of hibernation in robe....

Monogram classic Stockers, lovely, nice, nice, nice price, nice tampo, nice, put them on the track and OH MY GOODNESS, WHAT IS THAT SOUND!!!! What a horrid sounding drivetrain (leaves the worst of the worst SCX for dead)...... Performance? Give me my much maligned Carrera classic stockers thanks, they are as smooth as silk and go like stink after some tuning. Yeah the Mono Stockers left me a bit cold, sad really because I collect Rev/Mono stuff, really like the brand (except for the Zundapps, Simca's, three wheeled Mescherscmitts and other carp they bring out)....

Apart from that no real horror stories, most slot car makers do a great job nowadays, its been a great 12 months and I think its going to get a lot better :)

Cheers,

Rob.

I tend to agree with all of your comments..... It seems that it is the cars you like that make the biggest impression.
SOOB, my favorite would be the Scaley Mustang or Camaro..(magnet racing)
My all time favorite would be the Proslot GT2 Porsche or my new Proslot GT3 Porsche on board track. Both having been Wixelated into great handling cars.

Unfortunately, my worst would be the Revell Cortina (maybe it should be Wixelated as well... No, I don't think even that would help)
Cheers

HA!!!

Got to "second" Buzzards nomination for the worst of 2007, that Revell Cortina, what a crapper (forgot about that little gem)!!!!

Love the 1:1, got the red with gold stripe Revell model, horrible (with magnet) could only imagine the nightmare without mag...

Its unfortunate that I collect Revell stuff sometimes, really dont want to fork out the cash getting the other two in the series (would rather get the Simca, trabant nonsense model)....

Cheers,

Rob.

I dunno... You get a flock of those NSU's, Trabbies and Simcas together and turn the voltage down, you've got a party. I wish I knew about the 3-wheeled Messerschmidts. I love those things and the BMW Isettas, too. I had a coach in Jr. High School who had both, and it was our joy to be the ones to go get his car for him, across the field. He didn't let us drive them, just shove them across the field. The whole team would run across the field and whomever got there first got to get in and steer. The rest of us shoved as fast as we could, specifically trying to overcome the guy inside who was steering. The Messerschmidt was the most fun, because it had fittings all over it to grab. It had the "greenhouse" canopy.

Gents,

I remember on Saturday night when this was raised there were a lot of oohs and ahhs about what the
answers would be. Seems to have generated a fair bit of interest.

I have sat back and reviewed what I think are the best an worse of 2007 and I have to say I think that the best for 2007 would be anything from the cartix legends serious followed by the Fly Jagermeister HANS STUCK March. Lovely.

Worse...
Probably that small sedan Revell monogram NSU.
